Condolences

Condolence From: Holly Toensing
Condolence: I recently moved back to Rochester, MN, for a year or two before transitioning into a third career. It has been both strange and familiar to be in the backyard of my youth (in Pine Island, MN) and at least annual pilgrimages to see my parents in Rochester before they died (2010 and 2013). I moved in with a sister and her home is not far from the apartment where Marty and Linda lived when Marty taught and coached in Pine Island. Marty was my volleyball coach for a year. I remember feeling resistance to having a new coach, but that all fell away as I encountered the knowledge, dedication, enthusiasm, and humor that Marty brought to the job. We also had the pleasure of getting to know Linda during that time—so funny and encouraging! I remember how giddy they both were after the birth of the twins and insisted I come over to their apartment to be introduced—I think this was when they still lived in Rochester, but perhaps it was after they moved to the Cities. I was so sad to see the news of Linda’s passing —not something I was anticipating at all when I, just a few minutes ago, was doing a Google search to see what become of them. My thoughts and prayers go out to Marty and the kids. We knew each other only briefly, but Linda—together with Marty—brought so much joy into this brief time! —Holly Toensing

Condolence: to my dearest Linda: We have been friends for over 50 years, many memories include: swimming in your pool at your parents house, going to spain our senior year, traveling with the "pearl girls", toilet papering houses for birthdays and enjoying the warmth in your back yard. You will always be with us....the class of SSP 1975 will love you always.
