Mary Lou (Morris) Wolsey, Ph.D., passed away peacefully on April 7, 2021 at her new residence in Inver Grove Heights. She was born February 21, 1936 in Baltimore, MD and was proud of her Virginia roots and to have grown up in “God’s Country.” She was a graduate of Mary Washington College (BA), University of Kansas (MA), and University of Minnesota (Ph.D.). She met her husband, Wayne, in graduate school and they were married on July 31, 1965 and they resided in St. Paul until recently. She was a professor of French (“Madame Zig Zag”) at several colleges including the University of St. Thomas. Mary Lou was an active member of the MN chapter of AATF and a very involved servant/volunteer at Hamline Church. She was a voracious reader and library patron who participated in several book clubs, even in the last week of her life.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents Grayson and Annie Morris, and brother, Grayson B. Morris, Jr. She cherished time with her family and enjoyed time and conversations with friends. She is survived by her husband, Professor Emeritus Wayne Wolsey and her children Carole (Todd) Pankow, and Reverend Roger Wolsey. She was dearly loved “Mémé” to her grandchildren Kendra & Evan Pankow, and Andrew Wolsey and treasured by his mother Shandra Newcom.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on May 23, 2021 at Hamline Church United Methodist in St. Paul- details to follow. In lieu of flowers, she requested that she be remembered with donations in her honor to your favorite charity and for those who are able to gather at her celebration to collect and bring canned goods for Keystone Community Services and personal hygiene items for Emma Norton Services.
